Postimäki, which forms the scenic highlight along the Suuri Rantatie, is an exceptionally well-preserved group of craftsmen's and cottar's buildings, including buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The yards of the small cottages have kept their original character and reflect the social strata of the countryside.

Postimäki in the village of Ilola lies, at the junction of the Suuri Rantatie and the road running from the coast and archipelago along the western bank of Lillpernåviken and the Ilolanjoki, on a knoll unsuitable for cultivation. The building stock of Ilola consists of two crofts of the Illby manor and the cottar settlement of Postimäki. The building stock, the cottages, granaries and small outbuildings date for the most part from the 19th century, and the oldest buildings from the 18th century.

Postimäki is part of the village of Ilola, which was not divided in the Great Partition. Nikus farm, located at the foot of Postimäki along the Suuri rantatie, served as a post farm in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Postimäki takes its name from it.
