The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Pomarkun kirkonkylä on raitin varteen keskittynyt ja rakenteeltaan säilynyt. Kantatalojen ja rantapeltojen lisäksi kylän 1800-luvun ja 1900-luvun alun seurakunnallisesta ja teollistumiskehityksestä kertovat kaksi kirkkoa ja höyrysaha.

Isojärveen laskevan Pomarkunjoen varrelle kehittynyt kylä on asutettu 1500-luvulla ja sen kantatilat Rossi, Marttila, Markkula, Ala-Nissi, Teinonen, Soini, Tensiö, Tervamäki, Yli-Nissi ja Viro sijaitsevat alkuperäisillä tonteillaan. Maatilojen talouskeskukset sijoittuvat tiiviiksi ryhmäksi vanhan Vaasaan menevän maantien varrelle Pomarkunjoen molemmille rannoille peltojen ja niittyjen muodostaessa kehän kylän ympärille. Joen ylittävä kolmikaarinen kivisilta on valmistunut 1907. Julkisempia tiloja edustavat lisäksi 1800-luvun loppupuolella ja 1900-luvun alkupuolella rakennetut pappilan, säästöpankkin ja kirjakauppan entiset rakennukset.

Kylän rakennuskanta on pääosin 1800-luvun jälkipuoliskolta.

1910-luvulla perustetun höyrysahan rakennuskantaa on joen eteläpuolella.

Pomarkku church village is concentrated along the street and has kept its structure. Apart from the original kantatalo farms and the riverside fields, two churches and a steam sawmill bear witness to the village's parish and industrial development in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The village developed along the Pomarkunjoki river, which flows into Isojärvi lake. It was settled in the 16th century, and its original farms Rossi, Marttila, Markkula, Ala-Nissi, Teinonen, Soini, Tensiö, Tervamäki, Yli-Nissi and Viro are located on their original plots. The farmyards are grouped closely along the old road to Vaasa, on both banks of the Pomarkunjoki, with fields and meadows forming a ring around the village. The three-arched stone bridge over the river was completed in 1907. The more public buildings are also represented by the former parsonage, savings bank and bookshop buildings, built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The village's building stock is mainly from the second half of the 19th century. The relatively uniform age profile is emphasised by the similar scale of the buildings and the stylistic similarity of the details used in the exterior cladding, the mouldings, the window glazing bar divisions and the richly decorated verandas.

The abundant trees on the northern plots were planted after the fire of 1859 to improve fire safety. The alignment of the roads and, to a large extent, the siting of the buildings have also survived from the period before the fire.

The church environment of Pomarkku consists of two churches. The old wooden church is exceptional in the layout of its interior: in the nave, the altar and the pulpit above it are placed on the north wall. The rectangular main body has a tower on its south wall and, opposite it on the north wall, a sacristy. The well-preserved church has been a so-called autiokirkko since the new church was completed. The stone church, clad in natural stone, was completed in 1921 to designs by architect Ilmari Launis.

The buildings of the steam sawmill founded in the 1910s are on the south side of the river. The former Pomarkku sawmill is a typical medium-sized steam sawmill of a kind that was once established in large numbers but of which very few remain. The surviving work and power machinery emphasise the sawmill's industrial-historical value.

Evidence of the older settlement at Pomarkku consists of two Stone Age settlement sites and a Bronze Age grave in the village area. Pomarkku (Påmark) village, founded along the sparsely populated Pomarkunjoki river in the early historical period, was settled in the late Middle Ages. In the 1560s the village had four farms. In the 17th century there were six farms, and the village mill was located in a side branch of the river.

Pomarkku was established in 1802 as a saarnahuonekunta belonging to Ulvila, when the old Pomarkku church was also built. Pomarkku was separated from Ulvila in 1861 and joined to Noormarkku. It became an independent parish in 1899.

A fire that raged on the farms on the north bank of the river in 1859 destroyed the buildings of four farms, but the plots were laid out after the fire, following the old plot division.

At the turn of the century, under the control of the Stockholm merchant and timber businessman J.E. Francke, there were, alongside the Pomarkku sawmill, the Reposaari sawmill and several smaller sawmills in Finland. The Pomarkun liikeosakeyhtiö Yrjö Wiro ja kumppanit, founded in 1914, moved the sawmilling operations to their present site, one kilometre downstream from their earlier location at Kyläkoski. From the 1930s onwards the site also included a joinery workshop and a door and window factory. Sawmilling ended in the 1980s.
