The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Arkkitehti Viljo Rewellin suunnittelema karun askeettinen, betonista rakennettu Vatialan siunauskappeli kuuluu Suomen modernin arkkitehtuurin kansainvälisesti arvostettuihin merkkiteoksiin.

Mäntykankaan reunaan rakennettu Vatialan siunauskappeli ja hautausmaa sijaitsevat Tampereen ja Kangasalan keskustojen väliin jäävällä taajama-alueella. Siunauskappelin pitkänomainen rakennus käsittää suuremman ja pienemmän kappelin ja niiden välissä olevan sisäänkäyntihallin, omaisten odotushuoneen ja sakaristot. Huoltotilat ja jäähdytyshuone ovat kellarikerroksessa. Rakennuksen seinät on muurattu teräsvahvisteisista betoniharkoista. Isomman kappelisalin kattona on esijännitetty parabolinen kuorirakenne.

Kappelin kaluston suunnitteli Olli Borg. Rakennuksen ulkopintojen korjaus tehtiin 2000-luvun alussa.

Tampereen seurakuntien 1960-luvun alussa perustaman hautausmaan yleissuunnitelman laativat arkkitehdit Rauhala & Meller.

Designed by architect Viljo Rewell, the austerely ascetic, concrete Vatiala funeral chapel is one of the internationally renowned landmarks of Finnish modern architecture.

Built on the edge of Mäntykangas, Vatiala funeral chapel and cemetery are located in the built-up area between the town centres of Tampere and Kangasala. The elongated building of the funeral chapel comprises a larger and a smaller chapel and, between them, the entrance hall, a waiting room for relatives and the sacristies. The service rooms and cold room are in the basement level. The walls of the building are built of steel-reinforced concrete blocks. The roof of the larger chapel hall is a prestressed parabolic shell structure. The side walls are glass from floor to roof edge and open the space onto two inner courtyards, which contain blue-green water basins. The smaller flat-roofed chapel is almost entirely closed to the outside, and the hall's only source of light is a strip of windows running around the edge of the ceiling. The pitched roof is carried by two prestressed reinforced concrete frames. The interior ceilings of the entrance hall and the smaller chapel are clad in boarding.

In the structural and material choices of the funeral chapel designed by architect Viljo Rewell and completed in 1962, the aim, according to the designer, was a modest and even austere asceticism typical of the building type. The furnishings of the chapel were designed by Olli Borg. Repairs to the exterior surfaces of the building were carried out at the beginning of the 2000s.

The master plan for the cemetery, established at the beginning of the 1960s by the Tampere parishes, was drawn up by architects Rauhala & Meller.
