The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Pyhäjoen suussa on Jokipuojin kalaranta, joen pohjoisrannalla on Kaukon kalalanssi. Liminkaojan varrella Parhalahden kalarannassa on kolmisenkymmentä pientä kalavajaa ja -aittaa.

Kylien jakokuntien rakentamat kalasatamat ja venerannat muodostavat pitkin jokivartta levittyviä tiiviitä rakennusryhmiä. Rakennusryhmien sisällä on pieniä aukioita ja kalastukseen liittyviä rakennelmia. Ranta on kylien yhteismaata ja rakennukset kunkin talon omia. Rakennuksia on salvottu hirrestä, osa on lautarakenteisia.

The old fishing landings of Kauko, Jokipuoji and Parhalahti in Pyhäjoki tell of the area's fishing tradition. At the river mouths of Ostrobothnia there are densely built boat landings and shed areas, which are typical specifically of Ostrobothnian sea fishing.

Pyhäjoki has three fishing harbours, comprising several dozen boat sheds, net sheds and fish granary storehouses. At the mouth of the Pyhäjoki there is the Jokipuoji fishing landing; on the northern bank of the river is the Kauko kalalanssi. Along the Liminkaoja, at the Parhalahti fishing landing, there are some thirty small fish sheds and fish granary storehouses.

The fishing harbours and boat landings built by the village jakokunta form dense building groups spreading along the river. Within the building groups there are small open squares and structures related to fishing. The shore is common village land, and the buildings are each household's own. The buildings are of log construction, with some of board construction. Many are roofed with malkapuut, boards or straw.

The fishing landings of Kauko, Jokipuoji and Parhalahti in Pyhäjoki have been in the same use since time immemorial. Some of the present fishing cottages were built in the early 20th century.
