Kuvaus
Haapasaaren puukirkko, länsitornillinen pitkäkirkko, on rakennettu 1858-1859. Haapasaaren merivartioasema toimii vanhassa 1863 rakennetussa tulliasemassa.
Saaren merimerkkinä on 1862 Intendentinkonttorissa suunniteltu harmaakivestä rakennettu tunnusmajakka, jonka huipulla on moderni merivartiotorni. Majakkaan on tehty monia muutoksia, mutta torni on säilyttänyt asemansa maisemassa.
Haapasaari on valtakunnallisesti arvokas maisema-alue.
Historia
Haapasaari liitettiin Kotkan kaupunkiin 1974.

Description
Haapasaari in Kotka, like Tammio and Kuorsalo in Hamina and Kaunissaari in Pyhtää, is a well-preserved example, both in its structure and its building stock, of the built environment produced by fishing and seafaring in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
In the sheltered inner bay of Haapasaari in the outer archipelago, the harbour and trading quay are surrounded by a scale-wise uniform and compact pilot village environment with a substantial amount of old building stock. The oldest houses date in their frames from the 18th century, while the main part dates from the mid-19th century to the 1920s, when the island's school (1891) was also built. Stone fences bounding yards and pastures add their own character to the island's small-scale landscape.
The wooden church of Haapasaari, a long church with a west tower, was built in 1858-1859. The coast guard station of Haapasaari operates in the old customs station built in 1863.
The island's daymark is the grey stone landmark lighthouse designed in 1862 at the Intendentinkonttori, with a modern coast guard tower on its top. Many changes have been made to the lighthouse, but the tower has retained its position in the landscape.
Haapasaari is a landscape area of national value.
History
Pilotage began on Haapasaari in the 17th century and customs operations at the beginning of the 18th century. Pilotage was the main livelihood of the island's inhabitants alongside fishing and seal hunting. In 1723 a stone cairn was built on the highest point of the island; in 1727 the first daymark, or pooki, was built, which served as a pilot watch tower.
Haapasaari was merged into the city of Kotka in 1974.
