Kuvaus
Kangaslammin kirkonkylässä on säilynyt 1900-luvun alun kirkonkylän rakennetta. Rungon muodostaa vanhaa linjausta noudatteleva maantie, jonka varrella ovat taajaman julkiset rakennukset. Niistä ns. Manttaalisäätiön talo on poikkeuksellisen edustava ja hyvin säilynyt esimerkki suojeluskuntajärjestön arkkitehtuurista.
Raittiin liittyy mm. pitäjäntupa sekä kirkonkylän koulu, joista vanhempi on kunnan ensimmäinen kansakoulu vuodelta 1883, uudempi koulu on otettu käyttöön 1940.
Korkealla harjanteella kohoaa huomiota herättävä Kangaslammin suojeluskunnan ja Lotta Svärd -yhdistyksen taloksi rakennettu kaksikerroksinen, tornillinen ns. Manttaalisäätiön talo. Arkkitehti Oiva Kallion suunnittelema, 1920-luvulla valmistunut valkeaksi rapattu rakennus hallitsee kirkonkylän muuten pienimittakaavaista rakennettua ympäristöä ja maisemaa. Kallion suunnittelemat sisätilat huonejärjestelyineen ja kalusteineen korostavat talon historiallista arvoa. Edustavin sisätila on tuomarin huone kokouspöytineen, tuoleineen, arkkupenkkeineen ja kaappeineen.
Kylän laidalla on pappila ja kahden kirkonkylän kantatilan talouskeskukset vanhoine asuin- ja talousrakennuksineen. Kangaslammin 1972 palaneen puukirkon tilalle rakennetun uuden kirkon ympäristössä on säilynyt perinteistä kirkonkylää.
Historia
Rantasalmen pohjoisosassa sijaitseva Kangaslampi muodostettiin rukoushuonekunnaksi 1862, kappeliksi 1869 ja seurakunnaksi 1894. Kylärakenteessa maamerkkinä ollut 1869 valmistunut puukirkko paloi 1972. Uusi kirkko valmistui 1974 arkkitehti Kaj Michaelin piirustusten mukaan.
Kirkonkylään perustettiin seudun ensimmäinen kansakoulu 1883. Kansakoulun rakensi Olli Immonen. Uudempi koulurakennus otettiin käyttöön 1940. Koulun yhteyteen rakennettiin liikuntahalli 1994.
Kunnanvaltuusto kokoontui rakennuksessa vuoteen 1937 saakka. Tuomarin huone toimi käräjäpaikkana. Suojeluskuntajärjestö lakkautettiin 1944 ja talo siirtyi Manttaalikunnan omistukseen ja 1988 kunnan omistukseen. Pihapiirissä on asuinrakennus 1930-luvulta ja talli- ja liiterirakennus.
Kangaslammen kunta liittyi osaksi Varkauden kaupunkia 2005.

Description
The church village of Kangaslampi has preserved the structure of an early 20th-century church village. Its backbone is a main road that follows the old alignment, and along it stand the public buildings of the built-up area. Of these, the so-called Manttaalisäätiö house is an exceptionally representative and well-preserved example of Civil Guard organisation architecture.
The raitti also includes the parish hall, as well as the church village school. The older school is the municipality's first folk school, dating from 1883; the newer school was brought into use in 1940.
On a high ridge rises the striking two-storey Manttaalisäätiö house, with a tower, built as the headquarters of the Kangaslampi Civil Guard and the Lotta Svärd association. Designed by architect Oiva Kallio and completed in the 1920s, the white-rendered building dominates the otherwise small-scale built environment and landscape of the church village. The interiors designed by Kallio, with their room layouts and furnishings, emphasise the building's historical value. The most representative interior is the judge's room, with its meeting table, chairs, chest benches and cupboards.
On the edge of the village are the parsonage and the farm centres of two kantatila farms, with their old residential and farm buildings. In the setting of the new church built on the site of the wooden church of Kangaslampi that burned in 1972, the traditional church village has been preserved.
History
Kangaslampi, located in the northern part of Rantasalmi, was formed as a prayer house parish in 1862, a chapel in 1869 and a parish in 1894. The wooden church completed in 1869, which had been a landmark in the village structure, burned down in 1972. The new church was completed in 1974 to the drawings of architect Kaj Michael.
A first kansakoulu for the district was founded in the church village in 1883. The kansakoulu was built by Olli Immonen. The newer school building was brought into use in 1940. A sports hall was built in connection with the school in 1994.
The Manttaalisäätiö house was built as a Civil Guard house in the 1920s. The builders were the Civil Guard and Lotta Svärd organisations. In addition to the builders, the financiers included, among others, the municipality of Kangaslampi and Manttaalikunta, which received premises in the house. The architect was Oiva Kallio, who also designed the fixed and movable furnishings of the house. The municipal council met in the building until 1937. The judge's room served as a court venue. The Civil Guard organisation was dissolved in 1944, and the house passed into the ownership of Manttaalikunta, and in 1988 into the ownership of the municipality. The yard includes a residential building from the 1930s and a stable and shed building.
The municipality of Kangaslampi joined the town of Varkaus in 2005.
