The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Päijänteelle 1888 perustetuista kolmesta luotsiasemasta yksi rakennettiin Judinsaloon. Kylän halki kulkeva maantie rakennettiin 1960-luvulla, ja Judinsalon ja Keihäsniemen väliseen salmeen silta 1987.

The Mönkösmäki building group is a good example of farmhouse building methods and of how buildings were sited within their agrarian setting. Mönkösmäki in Judinsalo has preserved features associated with the old agricultural culture because of its geographical isolation; only shipping has maintained connections with the other shores of Päijänne.

Mönkösmäki is located on the island of Judinsalo on the eastern shore of Päijänne, which is separated from the mainland only by narrow straits. The cluster of farmhouses formed by Vanha Lehtimäki, Uusi Lehtimäki, Uusi Jutila and Vanha Jutila is situated on hummocks between Jutilanjärvi, Haukijärvi and Turasenlampi, at the narrow point of the island.

The building stock of the farms is old, outbuildings are abundant, and the ensembles are of ethnographic interest. The village houses and fields are concentrated around the lakes and ponds in the inner parts of the island. The undulating field plots are bordered by wooded meadows and forest pastures. A narrow village road runs from the main road to the farms, hugging the edge of the forest.

In the village of Judinsalo, which belonged to the parish of Sysmä, there was in the 1560s a farm called Judinsalo (now Vanha-Jutila), which had been founded in the mid-16th century.

Judinsalo was situated along the water and winter road between Jyväskylä and Korpilahti. A steamboat pier was built at Judinsalo to serve regular shipping. One of the three pilot stations established on Päijänne in 1888 was built at Judinsalo. The road running through the village was built in the 1960s, and a bridge was built over the strait between Judinsalo and Keihäsniemi in 1987.
