The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Tien varrella on säilynyt vanhaa rakennuskantaa, mm.

Ns. Viipurin ja Oulun välinen talvipostilinja kulki Leppävirran kautta 1600-luvulla.

The Nikkilänmäki museum road dates from the 18th century and is part of the main road that led from Southern Savo to Northern Savo and onward to Ostrobothnia. Its alignment has survived, and it is included in the Tiehallinto's selection of museum roads, chosen for their national significance and the survival of their alignment. Museum roads illustrate the stages of development of the transport network up to the present day.

The museum road is a 2.4-kilometre gravel-surfaced public road that winds through the settlement south from the Leppävirta church village. Older building stock has survived along the road, including on the Anttila and Pekkala farms.

The Nikkilänmäki road alignment was completed in the 1740s. Before this, the connection between Savo and Ostrobothnia depended on winter roads. The so-called winter mail route between Viipuri and Oulu passed through Leppävirta in the 17th century.
