The Province's registration record

it is the second oldest surviving Roman Catholic Church in the Province; and because of its association with both Abbe Sigogne, the most important figure in the survival of the French and Catholic tradition among the Acadians of south west Nova Scotia and Frederick Armand Robichaud, one of the first two Acadians elected to the Provincial Legislature. Note: Building no longer extant; land still registered.

Character-defining elements of St. John the Baptist include:

- building form and massing of the wooden church with its front tower entrance;
- gabled roof;
- Romanesque Revival style windows;
- shingled steeple;
- cemetery surrounding church.
